First step to Financial Stability…

// February 6th, 2008 // 10 Comments » // Uncategorized

DONE!

I had planned out two routes to take (regarding my financial crunch) and that was either to go to my bank and ask for a loan to pay off my debt and have one low interest payment or consolidate all my bills with a credit counseling consolidation organization. I chose the later. I completed the paper work today and sent it off. According to the DMP (Debt Management Program) plan, I will be paying $488/month for 52 months and I’ll be debt free! They have a service charge, one time set up fee, of $50 and then a monthly fee of $35 already included in my monthly payment. I have 8 credit cards that kept charging me late fees and high interest rates so the $35/month doesn’t matter to me as much as I looked at how much and long I would take if I didn’t consolidate them all into one bill.

This leaves me with approximately $900/month spending money (rent, insurance, other expenses already counted out). That’s pretty good, I think. Right? It should give me a chance to save up for school in the summer, fix my truck and possibly invest in something.

New Years Resolutions!

Wow, this is late in the game but I haven’t been really making these every year so I thought I should, starting this year.

1. Loose Weight
I began jogging. I started a week ago yesterday and I got the Nike+iPod kit from my parents this past Christmas and it’s pretty cool so far. It keeps track of my speed, length, weight and has neat features like goal settings and challenges for yourself or against other Nike+ users. My Nike+ account shows how many runs I have completed so far also has a nifty chart showing my progress. I do not like how the navigation of the site is set up (i got lost after my first run and got very confused.)

2. Organize Financials
This means a lot of things:

  • I have to organize all of my files and paper work. Separate what’s legal, school, automobile, finances and miscellaneous documents.
  • Create a financial plan that will guide me to taking control over my debt. I have a pretty large goal to meet by the end of this year so I have to get myself disciplined and learn how to just live off with things I need and put away the urges of want!
  • I’m getting some help from a friend (whom I’ve grown to like tremendously and am thankful for a certain someone in introducing us) that has professional experience in personal finance. She will be helping me set up a life insurance plan, that I’m still thinking about at the moment and a way to put my spending skills to the test, in a good way though. So, I’m very thankful for that this year.
  • speaking of finances and such, it’s TAX season! Everyone scream!! YAY! No, but seriously, this is my first year doing taxes and my mom is actually helping me with this one. I’m scared and excited at the same time, more scared than excited though. We’ll see! Speaking of which, Apple is developing TURBO TAX and Quicken Financial Life for Mac! I’m more interested in the Financial Life software, it just looks simple to read and create. Also, NeatReceipts look totally useful, because I have a mess of those everywhere at fault of my mother since she’s so paranoid and pushy when it comes to “saving all your receipts” =__= Nevertheless, I can’t wait!

3. Take Less Classes
I am taking a semester off to organize my life. I am also devoting myself in taking only two classes each semester after my break. I decided on this since my job as been increasingly demanding. I will resume school work this summer! Now this brings me to my next resolution…

4. Get a Promotion
I have been getting in a lot of huge projects at work lately. Requiring more time, knowledge and creative thinking. I have to learn a lot more CSS, HTML and now that I’ve somehow learned hot to work with ASP, we’re switching to JSP! Great! We’re getting two knew hires next week which means, I am not longer the “fish” (Prison Break lingo) and I have to train one of them. So I have some people that will depend on me. Something I’ve never had to really experience hands on before. I’m also getting a company laptop… this is HUGE in my line of work since the company I work for usually don’t give/lend corporate IBM laptops to “temporary/contract” employees. This has made me real anxious and excited.

5. Get my Truck Fixed & Buy a New One
I am trying to save up some cash in order to fix up my truck to be good enough to trade in for a newer model. Nothing too new (2007-2009) but something between 2000 and 2006 would be nice. I can’t go in reverse and it’s been months since I can’t; things started to fall apart since this past fall when my catlystic converter was stolen on campus. Major suckage people!

6. Help with Remodeling
My parents started remodeling the house in November and it’s now in full force. We’ve been painting, cleaning, demolishing, re-building etc. So far, so good. I just want to keep helping them when it’s needed. We’ve got contractors lined up do the some of the major stuff like crown molding, construction of a new room and complete kitchen face-lift (that contains removing one window and moving it to a new location.)

7. Take Good Care of Yuki
The new dog/family member. I have got to set up a new vet since our old one is crap. She needs to get fixed and vaccinated. I also need to register her with the county and get her chipped. I’m also expecting some major grooming bills come summer. She’s a Spitz breed and she will shed a lot in the heat. I’m not excited about that but I love her anyways!

8. Design, Design, Design
My online portfolio and freelance website is and has been LONG overdue. I am devoted to complete two major sites 1. Ciaopanda.com // 2. Mediarico.com: 1 = My portfolio and personal domain. I want to host and complete a database of all my recent works which include web sites, graphic design, print, essays, short stories and material completed and used for all class work. 2 = My freelance “corporate” site, it will be my professional domain used to promote my freelance services and also my curriculum vitae/resumé to prospective clients/new job.

Goodness! I’ve been planning out everything so far and it’s looking pretty good. Or am I just overly optimistic? Around #5 i kept getting interruptions from my mom and brother (so annoying) but whatever. Tomorrow there’s no school for those that go to school and government buildings are closed. I am working but I don’t mind. I’m just looking forward to the traffic free morning and afternoon I’ll have! Yayz!

  have safe trip to Taiwan! Regardless of how much I make fun of you and your neediness, I will miss you!

  I’m so glad I have met you, I wish for fun and better things for you and our new friendship. And I promise that’s the last bit of optimistic cheese you’ll get from me from now on! Also, I’m deeply sorry to hear about Lucky! My sincerest condolences!

Steps to Academic Recovery

// October 10th, 2007 // 2 Comments » // Uncategorized

After finding out the reason of my academic probation earlier this week (which is a combination of dropping 2 classes and getting a D for a summer course that I’m currently making up for this semester) I am in full goal mode right now. Meaning, I am researching and making arrangements to clear my name and claim my 3.5 GPA back! It may not seem like a high GPA to some people but it is for me. After struggling to get a 2.5 in high school this is a huge achievement for me. And to have it collapse on me because of one failed class and a dramatic schedule change this term because of work is stressing and energy draining. My list of steps to take to clear my name:

  • Schedule Academic Advisement Session Scheduled AAS: Friday (Oct. 12th) 4pm
  • Complete this term with a solid 3.5GPA (all As preferred but realistically, two Bs & two As wouldn’t hurt)
  • Take ONE intersession course. Late section preferred.
  • Submit admission papers to replace previous D grade

Short term goals set! Next semester I’m only planning on taking MAXIMUM 4 classes and all 4 being related to my first core major: Advertising! Any suggestions?
